After going through a rigorous selection process, 8 potential Indonesian tech startups have completed the Google for Startups Accelerator: Indonesia program. This is Google’s first startup accelerator program in Indonesia which is specifically dedicated to one country.
Thye Yeow Bok, Head of Startup Ecosystem SEA and SAF at Google, said he was impressed by the creative ideas, energy, and passion of the 8 startup founders. Moreover, they have managed to overcome various challenges that have arisen due to the pandemic.
“The purpose of this program is to sharpen the skills of founders and help them develop their startups to a higher level. I am also very happy to see them continue to develop various solutions for Indonesia, which are now increasingly equipped with new knowledge,” said Thye Yeow Bok, during an online press conference via Google Meet, yesterday (6/7).
Google for Startups Accelerator Program in Indonesia
Google for Startups Accelerator in Indonesia is called the latest evolution over the years to build a strong network with founders and Startups in Indonesia. This program is the first by Google in Indonesia and is specifically dedicated to one country. Where they want to offer this program again to startups in Indonesia next year.
For the first class, the Google for Startups Accelerator program is held for six weeks from April 26 to June 10, 2021. Due to taking place during the pandemic, the accelerator program is held virtually in English for potential Indonesian technology startups that are in the seed stage to series A.
This accelerator is designed to provide Google’s best programs, products, people and technology to help startups overcome the challenges we face. There are various sectors being worked on, such as fintech, edtech, retail, logistics, to health.
In addition to mentorship and support for technical projects, this accelerator will also provide in-depth discussions. Also, workshops that focus on product design, customer acquisition, and leadership training for startup founders.
The program includes in-depth material and workshops that focus on product design, user acquisition, leadership development for startup founders, and mentoring. For 169 hours, these startup founders were trained with 47 mentors from Google and industry, some of whom were alumni of the Accelerator program. Although it does not provide support in the form of funding, Google says that this program also facilitates connections to 117 venture capitalists.
8 Graduates of Google for Startups Accelerator Indonesia
Eight of the graduates of this program will now join the global network of Google for Startups, and we look forward to working with them and inviting them to mentor the next Google for Startups accelerator participant.
The following is a profile of eight startups that have successfully passed the Google for Startups Accelerator program in Indonesia:
1. aido health
aido health is a health service platform that connects users to a network of clinics, hospitals, laboratories, and pharmacies. This health technology company provides an integrated digital platform for access to high quality healthcare through a mobile application.
Jyoti Nagrani, Co-founder and VP Operations & Partnerships, aido health, said that through the Google for Startups Accelerator program, he learned to be a better leader. In addition, it can also clarify the value proposition, vision, and business model.
“Through this program, we know how to build a corporate culture and grow and maintain a strong team, B2B and B2C marketing strategies to develop and scale business offerings, to get information about funding,” he said.
2. Aruna
Aruna is an integrated fisheries e-commerce platform that is claimed to be the largest in Indonesia with the vision of creating fair trade for small-scale fishermen.
This startup connects local fishermen directly to customers. At the same time, it seeks to improve fishermen’s livelihoods through trade, preservation of marine ecosystems, and access to quality seafood for the wider community.
Utari Octavianty, Co-Founder & Chief Corporate Officer, Aruna, said Google For Startups Accelerator is a golden opportunity for him to learn effectively while working because he gets best practices from various experienced figures.
“The lessons learned also motivate the Aruna team because the material provided is very practical and can be adapted to our business activities. Even though this year it was held online, it did not reduce the hype because the presenters were very creative in conveying their knowledge,” said Utari.
3. Crowde
CROWDE is a financial technology startup that focuses on agriculture, empowering Indonesian farmers with access to capital, as well as technology that integrates the agricultural ecosystem. The goal is to optimize costs, productivity and improve livelihoods.
This startup creates an integrated agro-ecosystem that helps MSMEs in the agribusiness sector to develop business by connecting business actors through extensive data and networks.
Yohanes Sugihtononugroho, Co-founder & CEO, CROWDE revealed, at Google for Startups Accelerator: Indonesia, he learned how to scale a business plan to meet what investors are looking for. Then maintain marketing activities to foster stronger farmer engagement and build innovative programs for potential farmers. In addition, internally also pursue professional development to achieve managerial potential, and develop team management skills.
4. Duitin
Duitin is a digital platform for waste management in Indonesia that promotes environmental sustainability. This local startup provides incentives for recycling so that it has a good social and economic impact. Contributors can request garbage collection and get rewarded for recycling.
5. Pahamify
Starting from having an educational channel Rain of Questions, Fikri and Ikhsan in 2018 decided to establish an educational technology company Pahamify. It is an online learning platform for primary and secondary school students in Indonesia that helps students improve their academic performance.
6. Pintek
The name immediately implies about financial technology spoken by the Sundanese, fintech being smart. It is a financial technology platform that connects lenders with consumers and educational institutions. Pintek has a unique loan product that is designed to provide attractive returns with adjusted risk.
Tommy Yuwono, Co-founder and President Director, Pintek said that at the GfS Accelerator: Indonesia program, his party learned how to develop mobile applications through various Android tools. Also AI/ML based tools to optimize document processing (VisionAI & DocumentAI). Not only that, from experienced mentors, he also gets best practices in HR management, sales, and marketing strategy.
7. PrivyID
PrivyID is a startup company in the RegTech (Regulatory Technology) field that provides trusted digital identity services and digital signatures with legal force. Since its establishment in 2016, PrivyID has been trusted by more than 4.5 million users and 200 leading companies in Indonesia, including financial institutions and the information technology sector.
Founded by Marshall Pribadi, PrivyID is the first provider of electronic certification and electronic signatures recognized by the Ministry of Communication and Information and Bank Indonesia. PrivyID is also an official partner of the Directorate General of Dukcapil, Ministry of Home Affairs and is registered as one of the Digital Financial Innovation Providers at OJK.
From this program, the founders of PrivyID know the latest technology and Google services to advance products, realize the potential of products and best practices from mentors to develop products, and good team management skills to ensure good collaboration and communication occurs between teams.
8. TeleCTG Sehati
TeleCTG is an IoT startup part of the Sehati Group which is engaged in the Medical and Platform for maternal health. They are developing a digital health platform with connected medical devices. The goal is to increase access to quality health care, especially for mothers living in rural areas in Indonesia.
During the Google for Startups Accelerator program, the TeleCTG team learned to build a good team and become leaders who can grow the company. More than that, they also learn to develop technology that is credible, secure, and available through the Google Ecosystem, as well as communicate and translate company values into impactful products.
