Casio suffers cyber attack, customer data spread!

Jakarta, Gizmology – In early October, Casio suffered an unexpected cyberattack to the company’s data systems. At first, the Japanese giant did not react or give a statement regarding what happened. Until then, on Friday (11/10) the company provided information on what impacts were felt.

Quoted from therecord, Casio allegedly suffered a ransomware attack from a third party. The company also outlined the possibility of scattered data including those of employees, customers, business partners, and related affiliates.

“We are still working out the details, and external specialist agencies are continuing to investigate to find out if any personal or other important information was shared,” said a representative of the company.

In addition to personal information, the company also experienced leaks in terms of contracts and financial data. Joint contracts with current and past business partners; financial data related to invoices and sales transactions; as well as legal documents, HR, audit, and technical information are also indicated to have been successfully leaked.

This is not the first time that a company of Casio’s size has happened. A year earlier, the company had experienced a similar incident, but on a smaller scale.

Classpad.net, an application created for educational purposes from Casio was hacked by hackers. The incident resulted in the dissemination of customer information in 148 countries that listed. It’s just that the company did not explain further about the cause of the breach, whether it was due to ransomware or from hackers attacking.

The 2023 event impacted 1.108 customers from educational institutions and 120.000 scattered information data. However, Casio did not explain in more detail about it.

While in the recent incident, although there was a lot of data scattered, the company also ensured that there was no credit card data in it.
