Jakarta, Gizmologi – The Minister of Communication and Information assessed that the development of the e-wallet industry is growing very rapidly, thus giving rise to varied behavior among users. These platforms provide convenience in financial transactions, both for daily payments and business transactions. However, it also raises new challenges, especially related to use that is not in accordance with its intended use. Including illegal activities, including online gambling.

Remembering, online gambling activities are activities that are often carried out by Indonesian people. This refers to data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) which states that there are more than 4.000.000 active online gambling players in Indonesia, and the data comes from all age groups. Therefore, it can be said that many Indonesian people have fallen into online gambling games.

The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) plays an important role in supervising and regulating the use of digital technology, including digital wallets. In this context, Kominfo is committed to protecting the public from detrimental practices, such as unregistered online gambling which has the potential to cause financial losses for users. Law enforcement and preventive measures are part of the government's strategy to maintain the integrity of the digital payment system in Indonesia.

Recently, the Minister of Communication and Information took firm steps by issuing a stern warning to five e-wallet service providers suspected of facilitating online gambling. This action is an effort to take firm action against any form of violation that could harm society. Thus, it is hoped that the public will be wiser in using digital financial services and avoid the risks associated with illegal practices.

Minister of Communication and Information's Firm Steps

The Minister of Communication and Information revealed that the five e-wallets that received strong warnings had been involved in illegal activities, namely facilitating online gambling. This creates a huge risk for society, especially for those who do not understand the impact of gambling activities. Therefore, this step was taken as a form of government commitment to creating a healthier digital ecosystem.

The five e-wallet companies are DANA (PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe), OVO (PT Visionet Internasional), GoPay (PT Dompet Anak Bangsa), LinkAja (PT Fintek Karya Nusantara), and ShopeePay (PT Airpay International Indonesia). In order, the list starts with the highest transaction value, where transactions on the DANA platform reached IDR 54 trillion with 57 million transactions related to online gambling.

This firm action is not only a warning, but also a form of coaching for service providers to be more responsible in their operations. The Minister of Communication and Information emphasized that digital financial service providers must comply with existing regulations and commit to not being involved in illegal activities. Otherwise, more severe sanctions may be imposed, including revocation of business licenses.

With this warning, it is hoped that all e-wallet service providers will be more careful and proactive in monitoring activities that occur on their platforms. Collaboration between the government and the private sector is essential to create a conducive and safe environment for the user community. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that it can prevent the emergence of illegal practices that could harm users.

Public Education about the Risks of Online Gambling

In addition to taking action against service providers involved, Kominfo is also trying to increase public awareness about the risks of online gambling. The public needs to be educated about the dangers that threaten if involved in gambling activities, including the potential for financial loss and psychological impacts. This education aims to make people wiser in choosing a safe and secure platform.

The government also encourages the public to report any suspicious online gambling activity. With active participation from the community, monitoring of illegal practices can be carried out more effectively. Through the reporting channels that have been provided, the public is expected to contribute to creating a safer digital environment.

These educational activities will be carried out continuously, including through information campaigns that reach various groups. In this way, it is hoped that the public will increasingly understand the importance of security in transactions using e-wallets and be more alert to suspicious offers. Community involvement in these prevention efforts is essential to effectively combat online gambling practices.

With firm steps from the government and active participation of the community, it is hoped that the digital ecosystem in Indonesia can remain safe and healthy. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to protect the public from illegal practices that can be detrimental.
