Think Policy presents Bijak Demokrasi, a platform which is a continuation of the 2024 Election education platform “Bijak Memilih” in collaboration with What Is Up, Indonesia? (WIUI). “Bijak Demokrasi” launches on the 116th National Awakening Day to encourage Indonesian youth to understand politics and democracy.

Based on internal data, 29% of Bijak Memilih users are more interested in knowing Indonesian politics through comprehensive information packaging. Therefore, through Bijak Demokrasi it is hoped that we can continue the spirit of accessible political education in order to improve the public’s critical reasoning after the 2024 election.

Even though the 2024 election has ended, there are still many things that can be monitored so that people, especially young people, continue to be involved in the political process and strengthen democracy. According to the CEO of Think Policy & Co-Head of the Bijak Secretariat, Andhyta Firselly Utami, democratic participation does not stop after the election is over.

“Democratic participation does not stop after the election is over. We still have to monitor the performance of elected officials and ensure the government produces quality policies. Often we feel like we don’t have a voice to create systemic change. Wise Democracy wants to convince the public that there are various ways for us to actively participate in pushing for a more meaningful and upscale democracy,” said Andhyta, at the Jakarta National Awakening Museum.

According to Andhyta, there are four ways that can be implemented to continue to strengthen the democratic participation process. First, be responsible for research and selecting suitable candidates.

Then secondly, monitoring the policies made by each minister or parliament. Third, join a local community/movement on a particular issue. And finally join a political party / become part of the government.

In order to accommodate every level of public participation in the democratic process, the Wise Democracy Platform comes with four main products.

Democratic Wise Platform

The product that Bijak Democracy offers is Bijak Pilkada, similar to Bijak Memilih, Bijak Pilkada encourages people to do research and choose candidates in the upcoming Regional Head Election according to their individual values and needs. There is also Bijak Monitoring, with this product, the public is invited to monitor policies made by each minister or member of parliament, ensuring government transparency and accountability.

The Bijak Democracy platform also presents the Bijak community, through this product, people can join local communities or movements to strengthen participation and collaboration in monitoring public policy. And finally, the Wise School is a public policy education platform designed for people who want to learn about the public policy process, from beginners to professional level.

Hasintya Saraswati, Special Staff to the Minister of Youth and Sports for the Acceleration of Youth and Sports Innovation, who was also present at the launch event, welcomed the presence of Bijak Democracy. According to him, this is a breath of fresh air for the progress of democracy in Indonesia.

“The active involvement of the community, especially young people, is key to ensuring that their aspirations and needs continue to be heard and accommodated in the decision-making process. “In this era of rapid innovation, we appreciate the collaboration with Think Policy to perpetuate collaboration between the government and the public which is becoming increasingly important to achieve inclusive and sustainable development,” said Hasintya.

The launch of Bijak Demokrasi was continued with the Ruang Tengah event organized by Think Policy and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and attended by 25 youth communities. This Central Room aims to conduct opinion polls and discuss the draft National Youth Grand Design (DBKN) for 2025-2045 with a focus on relevant youth issues, namely education, health and welfare of youth, employment and employment opportunities, participation and leadership, as well as gender and discrimination.
