After the first edition was introduced in August 2022, DJI has now updated their first-person view (FPV) drone type with the presence of the DJI Avata 2. Soon after its global launch, Erajaya, the official distributor of DJI equipment, introduced it in various packages in Indonesia.

According to its type, the DJI Avata 2 is a little different, more specifically targeting consumers who prefer the experience of “flying” with FPV. Yes, this device is controlled using special goggles or glasses to display what is captured from the drone’s camera sensor, providing a more immersive effect than just using a controller with a screen.

Interestingly, the second generation this time brings improvements, as well as a more affordable price. The sensor used is a different type, lower in resolution but can produce better footage thanks to its larger dimensions. DJI Avata 2 can also be controlled from a greater distance, providing extra convenience for users.

Being one of the core parts of a drone, the DJI Avata 2 carries a 12MP sensor, “down” from the 48MP sensor in the first generation. However, the quality is claimed to be much better via the Super Wide Angle sensor, with larger dimensions at 1/1.3 inches. Dynamic range is said to be superior, including photo/video capture in low-light conditions.

The viewing angle is relatively wide, reaching 155 degrees. Meanwhile, for video recording, it supports resolutions up to 4K 60fps including HDR format. For slow-motion itself, it supports 2.7K resolution, up to 120fps. Because it is an FPV type, the latency between the drone and the goggles is important.

DJI Avata 2 can now be operated up to a distance of 13 kilometers, up from 10 kilometers from the first version. Not only that, the latency is only as low as 24ms on 1080p 100fps resolution video with a maximum bitrate of 60Mbps. Control is also claimed to be more stable, thanks to its physique which is now 28 grams lighter at 145 grams, as well as its dimensions being 16mm shorter and 32mm wider.

DJI RC Motion 3 is here for easier aerial acrobatics like flips, hovers and other maneuvers for amazing aerial footage. The signature stabilization of DJI devices such as RockSteady and HorizonSteady ensures extremely stable video including at high speeds in windy conditions.

The DJI Goggles 3 glasses used to control the DJI Avata 2 have also been updated with the ability to transmit video from the drone to other devices up to a distance of 5 meters, or use a cable to share with other goggles. The glasses themselves are equipped with a dual 1080p display with a micro-OLED panel, providing a maximum brightness of 700 nits.

While in use, there is a passthrough feature so that the user can still see the surroundings, as well as the feed from the DJI Avata 2 camera. Once flying, this sophisticated FPV drone can operate for up to 23 minutes, and supports fast charging with Power Delivery standards.

In the device, there is 46GB of internal storage which is said to be enough to store 90 minutes of video in 1080p 60fps format. Of course, the recording results can be shared directly to your smartphone quickly using the Wi-Fi protocol.

Quoted from the Eraspace website, the price of the DJI Avata 2 starts at IDR 6.98 million for the drone alone. Meanwhile, the combo with Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3 is sold for IDR 13.9 million. Want extra battery? There is also a package with three batteries at once, for IDR 16.3 million.
