XL Axiata has recently introduced the Fiber to The Room (FTTR) service exclusively for XL Satu customers. This service promises stable and fast internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps in all rooms.

As the name implies, FTTR technology will connect fiber cables to all rooms in the house. This technology is an improvement over Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology which only connects fiber cables to one house.

“If the fiber usually only connects to the house, then everything is broadcast wirelessly, so maybe friends feel that in certain rooms that are a bit far away, the speed will be different, or you won’t get a signal instead,” said the Group Head of Product Strategy of XL Axiata Rendhita Istimarini Putri during a media briefing at XL Axiata Tower, Monday (17/7/2023).

According to Rendhita, the FTTR service presents a valuable solution for homeowners facing inconsistent internet connection due to obstacles like walls or large distances between rooms. She gave an example if consumers have subscribed to a 100 Mbps broadband package, with the FTTR service, the speed in each room will remain stable at 100 Mbps.

“FTTR is because each room is connected to fiber, so the service experience will be stable and the coverage or signal will be the same in every room,” he added.

The FTTR service itself will be an add-on service that can be added to the existing XL One service. Rendhita said the installation process was simple because it was quite plug-and-play.

In addition to a more stable internet connection, FTTR services are also claimed to be more energy efficient. “Because his service is optical, he can save about 30% of power energy compared to usual,” explained Rendhita.

Rendhita did not disclose the tariff for this FTTR service because it is still being considered. XL Axiata’s FTTR service will initially be launched in areas with large market potential; however, it does not specify which areas.

To bring FTTR technology to life, XL Axiata has partnered with Huawei. Where this device will ensure stability and internet speed that is evenly distributed to all rooms in the house that cannot be reached by mesh wifi devices.

The FTTR devices offered by XL Axiata are claimed to be able to provide the best experience for its customers in enjoying online video streaming, online gaming, telecommuting services, as well as providing a consistent, stable and seamless smart home ecosystem experience.
