Jakarta, Gizmologi – International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that the Indonesian smartphone market will reach 44 million units or grow 8% from the previous year (year-on-year/YoY). IDC also announced the top 5 smartphone vendors in the country, based on the number of cell phone unit shipments in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Referring to IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker data, this growth occurred after a strong recovery in the fourth quarter of 2021. It was recorded with shipments of 40.9 million smartphone units which resulted in market growth of 11%.

It is known that there are 5 top smartphone vendors in Indonesia based on the results of IDC’s research in the fourth quarter of 2021, namely Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Realme. Where Oppo became the number one player in Indonesia and controlled the low-end market share last year.

OPPO IDC market share Q4 2021According to IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, OPPO’s market share in 2021 is 28%, an increase compared to the previous year which only reached 24%. This is followed by Vivo which also managed to record the highest growth last year.

“OPPO and Vivo managed to maintain their number 1 and 2 positions in 4Q21, continuing their success from the previous quarter as both were able to maintain the stability of their supply,” said Vanessa Aurelia, Associate Market Analyst at IDC Indonesia (22/3).

The third position is occupied by Samsung with a market share of 18.9% and a number of smartphone shipments of 1.9 million units. According to IDC, this achievement stems from shipments of the popular Galaxy A smartphone line, particularly the Galaxy A03 and A12.

Meanwhile, the fourth position in the fourth quarter of 2021 was occupied by Xiaomi with smartphone shipments of 1.6 million units and a market share of 15.2%. Followed by Realme which is ranked fifth with the number of smartphone shipments of 1.3 million units and a market share of 12.8.

On the other hand, IDC also estimates that the supply of smartphones will gradually increase this year. Smartphone vendors are predicted to start adding stock before entering Ramadan.

In addition, vendors are also preparing to face changes in the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) and are preparing to face an increase in income tax (VAT) which will be implemented starting April.

“Although most smartphone vendors have prepared themselves to face an increase in TKDN, there is still uncertainty for their higher-end product lines which may be more tightly regulated,” said Associate Market Analyst from IDC Indonesia Vanessa Aurelia in an official statement, Tuesday.

According to Vanessa, there is a possibility that smartphone distributors will stockpile before the tax is raised from 10% to 11% in April. He also estimates that the recent merger between Indosat Ooredoo and Hutchison 3 will accelerate the development of 4G and 5G networks in Indonesia.
